You know that feeling you get when you realize you can no longer eat
gluten? That feeling that you’ll be deprived somehow, to a dry, grainy
alternative to the things you once cared for so much? I’m hoping you’ll
finally have a pleasant experience, like I did, when you discover Namaste
Pizza Crust Mix.
Pizza dough itself is finicky. I’m from Connecticut, so pizza is a pretty
big deal. Since I moved to Florida, I’ve basically come to the realization
that I won’t have that authentic thin crust (like the New Haven
masterpieces I used to encounter). Since becoming gluten-free though? Wow.
At first, after trying a slew of pre-made pizza crusts, and a few mixes to
prepare myself… it was pretty depressing to say the least. I’d liken many
of the crusts to cardboard, and I never really thought I was that tough of
a critic.
I’ll be completely honest, I had to open my mind a little and realize a
good pizza crust doesn’t necessarily mean it will be identical to what I
was used to in CT. Let’s face it- gluten-free foods kind of take up their
own category in the world of edibles. Once I tried Namaste Pizza Crust Mix
though, I was an instant fan. More importantly, my super-finicky son liked
it! Talk about victories! If you know my son, you know he’s not the type of
kid to eat just anything. Now that he’s 11, he’s expanding his palette
tremendously. Even back when he was willing to eat only a rotation of 5
different foods though, Namaste Pizza Crust Mix was on the list of his
staples- he has loved it from the start!
One of my favorite things about Namaste Pizza Crust is the pleasant mix of
Italian spices- it’s so flavorful sometimes I don’t put anything on it.
Also, the crust is so soft and doughy! It’s not dry at all, you’d almost
think it had gluten in it.
It’s great to be at ease with products you’re comfortable with- one of the
huge reasons I love the Namaste brand itself. The factory is dedicated-
free of casein, gluten, soy, potato, tree nuts, corn. I avoid casein and
gluten, but my son avoids soy and has to be ultra-careful to avoid cross
contamination. I never feel like I’m experimenting with Namaste products.
It’s so re-assuring!
For a more traditional pizza, I prepare it the way the package directions
say, but I like to experiment in the kitchen. One of the quickest meals I
prepare my son is a version of fried dough. I put one egg in a bowl, then
mix in Namaste Pizza Crust mix until it forms a thick dough. Then I thin
out the mixture with water until is the consistency of super thick pancake
batter. I cook it in a hot skillet with enough oil to cover the bottom of
the pan. When the edges start to cook, it’s usually ready to flip. Once
it’s finished I top it with my son’s favorite sauce. I never cook my fried
dough for myself (I’m a calorie counter), but I secretly hope my son
doesn’t finish his so I can sneak a bite :)
