About This Blog

A quick introduction about me.

I've been cooking gluten-free since January 2010 after my husband's doctor told him to go on a gluten-free, dairy-free, and egg-free diet. The doctor's diagnosis was that he had "leaky gut" and he had become allergic to many things including gluten. (Read Andrew's article about Leakey Gut.)

I didn’t really know what exactly it meant to become “gluten-free”. Cutting out dairy from our diet was relatively easy since I grew up in Japan and traditional Japanese food contains no dairy (though I used to cook casseroles and other food that contain cheese once in a while). Cutting out eggs was slightly more challenging, but nothing compared to cutting out gluten. I used soy sauce in my cooking all the time and I didn't even know it contained wheat until Andrew gave me a list of products to avoid. I had to learn quickly what to cook for him so I could keep him well fed.

We've always eaten relatively healthy, but we became even healthier eaters after we started the new diet. We eat a lot of vegetables and buy organic foods whenever we can. While I love white rice, we try to eat brown rice or less starchy food as a side dish. Much of my cooking is very simple — not so saucy. I also try to use less sugar if I'm making desserts.

Andrew is doing much better now on this diet and his leaky gut has healed according to his doctor. Although he eats eggs and drink Kefir occasionally, we continue to cook gluten-free healthy meals at home.

In this blog, I hope to share tips and tricks we learned over the years cooking gluten-free, dairy-free, and egg-free food as well as healthy food. All of our recipes will be added to the recipes page too. We are just getting started, so please check back often as we continue to add more content to the site.

Cheers to gluten-free and healthy eating!
